The Story Begins
In 2008, after discovering the challenges facing COPD patients, Dikran Tourian, Founder and CEO, had a vision to design and build an innovative and ‘best in class’ dual mode portable oxygen concentrator. His goal was to create a product that could go from the bedroom to the golf course, even if that golf course was across the Atlantic Ocean and never fail to deliver the necessary purity and flow of oxygen that COPD patients require. After recruiting the help of Gyre 9 president, Ed Gilchrest, and industry sales veteran, Jeff Kerven, the trio began a two year journey that lead to the acquisition of the intellectual property of Oxlife, LLC, and what they determined was the most efficient and capable oxygen concentrator design in existence.
Now Build It
Establishing a cost competitive product, while implementing higher benchmarks for quality, required building a state-of-the-art factory facility specifically designed to manufacture the Oxlife Independence. On June 18, 2010, O2 Concepts broke ground, in Newtown, CT, for their manufacturing and test facility.
Spreading the Word
After designing the product Tourian and Kerven set out to assemble the industry’s finest sales organization. As word spread through the durable medical equipment industry, O2 Concepts was approached by the oxygen industry’s most experienced respiratory sales representatives. Cumulatively, the sales leadership team possesses 60+ years of oxygen sales experience, and the thirty-six member sales team is comprised of the most talented resources in North America.
